CONDOLENCE MESSAGE: DR. PROSPER CHAKI
Honouring a Legacy
The African Genetic Biocontrol Consortium (AGBC) is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Prosper Chaki, a distinguished Research Scientist and Medical Entomologist based in Tanzania.
Until his demise, Dr. Chaki served as a Director at the Tanzania based Ifakara Institute.
Dr. Chaki was a dedicated member of the Pan African Mosquito Association (PAMCA), one of the member associations of the AGBC. Between 2014-2024, Dr. Chaki served as the Executive Director of PAMCA, where he steered the vision of “An Africa free of vector-borne diseases.”
Dr. Chaki died on January 24, 2026 in Muhimbili National Hospital, Dar-es-Salaam.
For two decades, he worked at the Ifakara Institute, having joined in 2000 as a research scientists, later rising through the ranks to Director of Resource Mobilisation and Stakeholder Engagement.
The AGBC extends its heartfelt condolences to Dr. Chaki’s family, friends and colleagues both at the PAMCA and in Tanzania. As we remember his many contributions, we also honour the positive and enduring impact he had on all of us.
We celebrate his dedicated contribution to science leadership in a remarkable career spanning over two decades.
Proper’s dedication and friendship will be remembered with respect by the Consortium. His contributions and legacy will always be valued.

ABOUT THE AFRICAN GENETIC BIOCONTROL CONSORTIUM
The African Genetic Biocontrol Consortium provides a platform for interaction among African experts and institutions to enhance opportunities for technical capacity strengthening, knowledge exchange and deliberation about the challenges and opportunities of genetic biocontrol technologies.
The Consortium was officially launched on November 30, 2020 by inaugural not-for-profit member organizations based in Africa. The member organizations include the Africa One Health Network (AfOHNet), the Africa Biological Safety Association (AfBSA), The Multilateral Initiative on Malaria ( MIM) , Network of African Science Academies (NASAC) , Pan-African Mosquito Control Association (PAMCA) and the GeneConvene Global Collaborative (GeneConvene)
